Sustainability
Sustainability is about meeting our own needs without depleting the ability of future generations to meet theirs.
About working with nature rather than exploiting it.
But that's not enough.
Going beyond mere sustainability, we should leave the world a better place than we found it.
Sustainability is important to me, not as a superficial marketing term but a core value. I have a scientific background and like to know that, if I make a claim, it is reliable and backed up by evidence. As such, I'll avoid making claims that you may see elsewhere such as 'save the bees'- the simple fact is that honey bees are a kept species and don't need saving; it's all the other insects and bugs including numerous solitary pollinators that are vital for propping up the food web. The best way to do this is creating habitats by simple steps such as letting patches of vegetation grow, compost heaps, piles of sticks or providing forage throughout the year (and avoiding pesticide use) rather than jumping on a bandwagon about honeybees.
